Fat Woman and the helpful input

Fat Woman likes taking helpful input from people. Fat Woman has a Twitter feed full of tweets from people or organisation that share great information about new exercises, research and food as well as other individuals with an interest in fitness. Fat Woman has also found everyone at the gym very helpful, although possibly a large part of that is that she has always been under the obvious care of Personal Trainer. Upsetting Personal Trainer's client is like upsetting Personal Trainer, and despite him being a genial chap most of the time no one wants that.

Since becoming an adult Fat Woman has never suffered the verbal abuse that other fat women talk about having to endure on a daily basis. Fat Woman puts this down partly to her air of confidence - Fat Woman is unusually self confident for a human being, never mind a fat woman - and partly because she lives in a small university city with an unusually educated populace. Fat Woman used to get her fair share of randomly thrown abuse as a teenager, but usually from other young people.

Fat Woman found the following words posted as an anonymous comment on her blog:
Do you fat women even realize how fucking ugly you are? I mean I almost vommitted looking at your picture, you fat ass. LOSE SOME FUCKING WEIGHT, YOU DISGUSTING FAT COW!!!!!!!!!
Fat Woman hasn't seen such a fine example of illogical hatred in a long time.

Fat Woman hasn't actually published a photograph of herself on her blog. Fat Woman hasn't even linked to the little cartoon of herself she uses on Twitter. Fat Woman is amused that a three-letter word comes with such power.

Fat Woman thinks anyone commenting anonymously on a blog has already devalued their message enormously, but that hardly needs saying.

Fat Woman can allow spelling mistakes, but does not think the abuse of punctation and uppercase letters lends gravitas to any message, let alone what can only be called a troll. Fat Woman would like to point out that she is using "troll" as a verb here.

Fat Woman is shaking her head at all the other rookie mistakes the troll (noun) is making here. Fat Woman really hopes the troll generated the warm fuzzy empowered feeling he was hoping for because he hasn't managed to scare, upset or hurt Fat Woman with his badly-typed diatribe. The troll is blog fodder.

Fat Woman would like to make some points for her more logical and engaged readers:

(1) Fat is officially incurable. See this article on cracked.com.

(2) Fat Woman considered "fat" as an insult to have lost its sting after having heard it levelled at the tiniest women who happened to have normal bodies i.e. not the airbrushed limbs of a doll."Fat" as an adjective is comparative. Fat Woman has never heard the word used in a non-bullying way.

(3) Human bodies aren't disgusting. Anyone disgusted by anything that is more than one deviation from the norm needs some education and some tolerance. Some people look different to the media-presented "normal", and that's okay. The media-presented "normal" is about making money for private company owners.

(4) Fat Woman doesn't actually care what you think. Fat Woman would prefer it if you had a healthy informed attitude towards human bodies, but you probably have your own issues to deal with.. Fat Woman wonders if wishes were granted how many people would wish to have no fat on their bodies at all. In case that isn't clear to you, if you had no fat you would die.

Fat Woman isn't going to bother justifying how she got fat. It doesn't matter if Fat Woman got fat because she ate all the pies or she had a medical condition. The fact is that Fat Woman is fat, has always been fat and probably always will be fat. Fat Woman is okay with that and is certainly not going to buy into the idea that she is a non-person because she doesn't look like someone in a magazine or on a video. Fat Woman is pretty damn fit now, and almost certainly lives a healthier lifestyle than any troll.

Fat Woman is writing this post because she would like her readers to realise that fat shaming is a tool used by bullies.Fat Woman would be grateful if people would avoid fat shaming themselves or others, whether that is by refraining from saying "you're so fat" or "I'm so fat" or giving helpful suggestions such as advising on diet. Fat Shaming, like Slut Shaming, is about controlling other people. People shouldn't be controlled, they should be autonomous, and control of other people is the basis of abuse.

Fat Woman thinks that if you can't understand why it's not okay to tell fat jokes by now you're probably still telling jokes about ethnic minorities.

Fat Woman has put "a better class of troll" on her Amazon wishlist.

Fat Woman and the amazing combination

Fat Woman was padding away in BoxFit class. Personal Trainer has finally got around to starting a BoxFit class at his new gym. Fat Woman has been waiting an entire year for this to happen. Other coaches do not compare favourably.

Fat Woman was working with a nice lady who is quite new to BoxFit but who was just starting to get the hang of punching the pads. This meant that together Fat Woman and the nice lady could make a good loud sound. After every combination of punches both Fat Woman and her partner would reset their hands. The combination was was left-left-right. The lady boxing Fat Woman was right-handed so her right punch was much stronger than her left punch. The noise the lady's gloves made on Fat Woman's pads was: "thump-thump-BANG! thump-thump-BANG!"

Fat Woman got well into the second chorus of We Will Rock You before the set was over. The most amusing thing to Fat Woman was that on hearing her padding "thump-thump-BANG!" other people were starting to fall in time with her. Fat Woman wishes that more people in the gym were singers because it could have been an AWESOME Glee-style moment.

Personal Trainer pointed out to Fat Woman that if she had breath to sing she wasn't working hard enough. Fat Woman escaped burpees, but reckons it would have been worth it.

Fat Woman and the sweetest gift of all

Fat Woman has a pretty good relationship with Personal Trainer. As well as their working relationship Personal Trainer and Fat Woman occasionally have coffee together and on special occasions go and shoot clay pigeons. In fact, it was Personal Trainer who took Fat Woman shooting after her initial shotgun skills course and later taught her how to shoot a driven bird. When Fat Woman isn't looking on Personal Trainer as her own personal SS torturer, she regards him as an extra nephew to spoil with cake and little gifts from holiday. Personal Trainer resents any suggestion that he is a child, up until there is a present or something good to eat on offer.

Personal Trainer likes food. Fat Woman found that Personal Trainer was a great tester for any kind of project, especially cake. Personal Trainer is inordinately fond of chocolate cake. Just before Personal Trainer had his 21st birthday he expressed a wish for a giant chocolate cake like the one Bruce Bogtrotter eats in Matilda. As Fat Woman is sentimental about milestone birthdays she provided what is known as the Ultimate Chocolate Cake, a chocolate sponge layered and covered with chocolate ganache. Fat Woman even decorated the cake and added a candle The following year all Personal Trainer wished for was the same thing again. It had to be made with 74% dark chocolate, not the 60% that Fat Woman personally prefers, and it had to be made in well advance as the cake reaches perfect four days after baking. Personal Trainer claims that the only sweet thing he has eaten that is better than the Ultimate Chocolate Cake is Fat Woman's banoffee pie.

Fat Woman is about to retire from cake provision for Personal Trainer has taken up baking. Fat Woman smiles at Personal Trainer's comments on how much it costs to produce a batch of brownies. Fat Woman has been hearing tales of Personal Trainer's baking disasters (a tablespoon each of bicarbonate of soda and baking powder make a mess of your oven floor), his purchases (a blender with a whisk attachment) and has seen pictures of his successes. The most impressive success so far was Personal Trainer's chocolate cake. Fat Woman received a picture of an impeccably glossy chocolate cake topped nearly with chocolate squares. Fat Woman sent back compliments and good wishes that the cake be as impressive as it looked.

On Monday after training Fat Woman's personal trainer presented her with an enormous piece of chocolate cake and encouraged her to eat it straight away. Personal Trainer even facilitated this happening by presenting Fat Woman with a fork.

Fat Woman has the best personal trainer in the whole world.

Fat Woman and the line that goes down

Fat Woman is enjoying learning to shoot. Fat Woman likes clay pigeon shooting so much that Thin Husband has put her on rations to prevent binge-shooting. Fat Woman is now getting quite good at learning new sports and has recruited a shooting coach. Actually, Shooting Coach started teaching Thin Husband first, but as Fat Woman has to organise the lessons and take Thin Husband's gun to the ground for him she figured she wasn't going to miss out.

Fat Woman had spent a box of cartridges failing to get the better of a rising going away bird and thought it time to seek expert advice. At Fat Woman's lesson Shooting Coach explained how to shoot the presentation, and Fat Woman managed to break a few clays. Then Shooting Coach got Fat Woman to break the clays with a less measured and more instinctive reaction. Everything was going well, until Fat Woman lost all ability to shoot and missed and missed and missed and missed again. Eventually Shooting Coach, who likes to end a lesson on a killed bird, allowed Fat Woman to give up. Shooting Coach went off to coach Thin Husband, and Fat Woman shed her shooting gear and went off to have a cup of tea and no biscuits.

Half an hour later Fat Woman had drunk her tea, inspected all the guns for sale and was starting to twitch. Fat Woman hadn't intended to shoot more before lunch but it seemed a terrible waste of time to be stuck in a club house that smelled far too strongly of deep fat frying when the weather was fine and there were cartridges waiting to be shot. Fat Woman hates self-buttoning, but she had noticed that the ground had a DTL (Down The Line) layout with microphone controlled pull. Fat Woman thought this was the perfect opportunity to get some private, unobserved shooting time to practice what she had just been taught. Fat Woman doesn't mind being useless at things but when she is learning something by trial and error she prefers not to be observed.

So Fat Woman went back out to the car, suited up again, went back to the clubhouse to get a ClayMate counter (and a telling off for bringing her gun in with her), then went off to the DTL layout only to spend five minutes looking for somewhere to plug in the counter.

Eventually Fat Woman gave up on the grounds that she is a bit slow sometimes but isn't entirely dim, and went back to the car to stow the gun, back to reception to ask if she was being a bit stupid, back to the car to get the gun out again then back to the DTL layout to await the arrival of the ground staff member to button for her. Fat Woman had time to comes to terms with the loss of a completely private practice session, reasoning that anyone who works at a shooting ground has seen it all before and has no interest in what each individual customer is shooting. Fat Woman is not keen on the vanity of self-conciousness; at best she finds it tiresome in others, at worst she considers it narcissistic.

Eventually a member of staff turned up. Fat Woman asked to shoot 25 birds from the middle stand on the grounds that she only really wanted to practice going away rising birds. The anonymous staff member thought this would be fine so after a few minutes of setting up Fat Woman was finally ready to sink into practicing what she had just learned. Fat Woman had recently studied diagrams on hold DTL points so was ready to give the game another bash. Fat Woman set her feet, mounted her gun, set her hold point, called pull and shot a target twice in quick succession, and then found that Thin Husband and Shooting Coach had appeared behind her.

After ruining Fat Woman's mental focus with an unexpected appearance Shooting Coach was nice enough to actually coach Fat Woman through the rest of her round, and said that Fat Woman ended up hitting roughly half of the birds. Fat Woman knows this isn't great for DTL, but considered it an improvement on her earlier performance was pleased she had actually learned her lesson. Fat Woman was feeling much more confident about DTL by the end of this and planned some happy times amusing herself at gun club with the nice quiet mic-operated DTL set up.

The next time Fat Woman had a chance for a round of DTL she started off by hitting four out of the first five birds with her first barrel. Fat Woman was quite pleased with this, especially as she had shot a proper round of DTL just twice before, once with Personal Trainer in her fourth hour of shooting when she scored three points, and once nearly a year later when she scored only slightly more. Fat Woman was therefore very pleased about her 4/5 hits, especially as she had forgotten about being allowed to use the second barrel when she missed with the first one. So Fat Woman moved to the next stand and called "Pull!".

Nothing happened.

Fat Woman called "Pull!" again in a louder voice. Still nothing happened. Then Fat Woman called "Pull!" really loudly - and Fat Woman has a very loud voice when she projects properly - and nothing happened. It wasn't until Fat Woman turned her natural squeaky soprano voice into a deep, deep contralto and bellowed "Pull!" like she was Pavarotti that she could actually get stand 2 to work.

Ironically, the same stand was entirely happy to count Fat Woman closing her gun as a call.

By the end of the round Fat Woman had developed a very strange holler, calling "Pull!" in a way that sounded not dissimilar to a cow lowing. Having to call for a bird multiple times did not have the greatest effect on Fat Woman's shooting, but she considered she had compensated well, hitting two thirds.

The Gun Club office were not surprised at Fat Woman having had problems with the microphones. Apparently if the mics are set sensitively enough to pick up the higher female voices at the height they are displayed at, they are then too sensitive and send out lots of no-birds. Fat Woman is writing this off as another example of entrenched sexism in the shooting world. If Fat Woman makes a fuss about this then Fat Woman is obviously the problem.

No long after this Fat Woman shot DTL at a different ground and did so badly that friends reassured her that it was "a very hard ground to shoot at". Fat Woman appreciates the kindness, but is happy to own up to the fact that (1) she completely forgot her hold points until stand 5 (2) she forgot that DTL birds start dropping fairly quickly (3) she has no idea how to hit a dropping DTL bird (4) she basically shot like a pig with trotters. Fat Woman has a reasonably thick skin and had not disgraced herself in the earlier SportTrap, so put DTL down as one of the things she has yet to learn.

Fat Woman confessed to Shooting Coach that she hadn't done very well at DTL and might not have been the best advert for his tuition that day. Fat Woman is not used to having to say this kind of thing to Shooting Coach. Usually Fat Woman starts a lesson by bouncing happily up to Shooting Coach and announcing that she has practiced what he taught her at her last lesson and has been fairly successful with it and has a tale of how the latest skill came in useful. This time Fat Woman was a coward and dropped a throwaway comment into an email on the grounds that Shooting Coach is terribly busy and might not have noticed.

Shooting Coach is turning out to be as sharp as Personal Trainer and doesn't miss a trick.

Shooting Coach's response was initially sympathetic, in tone if not in words, but surprised Fat Woman by pointing out that trying to do every shooting discipline would probably result in her going along the jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none route. Fat Woman had not considered that there was any possibility of her being a master of anything, but considered that if Shooting Coach hadn't been able to teach her DTL, she wasn't a natural at it and it was actually a relief to be off the hook as far as future sessions were concerned.

Fat Woman has not given up on DTL entirely but has certainly shelved it until such time that Shooting Coach thinks she has learned Sporting well enough not to be led astray by rising going away birds, maintained lead and orange-coloured clays, or alternately until Sporting Coach throws up his hands and admits that she might as well go and try being a good all-rounder because she isn't going to get any better at Sporting. Fat Woman is just sorry that the skeet range doesn't have the same voice-operated facilities as DTL, and expects that Thin Husband will be equally as sorry when she drags him around to button for her.

Fat Woman and the importance of shopping in sport

Fat Woman has done a lot of shopping to support her interest in sport and fitness. Fat Woman loves a bargain and prides herself on being a canny shopper, finding useful or beautiful things at bargain prices. Fat Woman was never quite so upset as when she was supporting a friend's appearance on a TV show where they had to raise money for charity by having a yard sale and she was caught on camera paying over the odds for something. Luckily, Fat Woman didn't make good television and the exchange didn't make the cut. The whole section of Thin Husband bargaining for a mirror made it on to screen because he had a lovely stripey scarf that looked great on camera and good cheekbones, ditto.

Most of Fat Woman's purchases for sporting activities have been brand new. Fat Woman is not generally medieval in her thinking about second hand goods but thinks that second hand sweat is a bit icky and tries to avoid it. Fat Woman prefers to buy new and cheap for first time interests, on the grounds that if she wears out her first cheap purchase it is reasonable for her to invest in something better. Fat Woman's boxing gloves are the best example of this. Fat Woman has used them for many, many hours, yet they remain in good condition. This is partly because Fat Woman drew hearts and flowers on the white parts so boys didn't want to use them. Fat Woman would have been fine buying equipment such as racquets or bats second hand, but there never seemed to be any need to invest in anything expensive - until Fat Woman took up shooting.

Fat Woman found that buying a gun was a bit like trying to buy a pair of shoes that fit when you've never actually had a pair of shoes the right length or the right width. Fat Woman had never shot with a stock the right length before buying her gun. Fat Woman also had to deal with stocks with very pointy toes, which meant that the entire recoil of the gun would be concentrated on a 0.5" circle. Fat Woman knows that shooting is male-dominated and is therefore fairly sexist, but the complete lack of consideration and understanding by even the nicest people surprised her greatly. Fat Woman ran across people who were adamant she should go gun down straight away. Fat Woman would have been more understanding of these folk if they had been more appreciative of that 0.5" pressure circle. NONE of these people were cognisant of the recognised gun down technique for ladies who happen to be gifted with what Sparky calls 'bazoomas' (hold the gun out directly in front). Fat Woman was also very unimpressed at the number of people who assumed she would want a 20 bore simply because she is a woman. Fat Woman shoots clays - although has been promised pigeons in the future - and a light 12 bore is much nicer for her than a kicky 20 bore. Fat Woman admits however that she is not a delicate little flower and spends time lifting weights. Thin Husband is very happy with his 20 bore (see Fat Woman and the bore) although he has admitted that having got used to it he could handle a 12 bore of his own.

Fat Woman has created a guide for the frustrated gun-buying lady. Here, in easy steps, are Fat Woman's recommendations on how to go about buying a sporting gun (originally posted in the forum at www.shootclay.com).

1. Learn the basics of shooting - how to mount the gun, where your hands and eyes should be etc.
2. Try every gun you can. Get friends and coaches to let you try their guns. Hire club guns. Fall in love with something very expensive.
3. Listen to the advice and prejudices and preferences of those you know. Be amused at how people seem to either love or hate the Beretta DT10/11 and the Miroku MK38 and have serious views on brands without much evidence or reason.
4. Go around all the gun shops and announce you need a gun, your budget is £X and you like Very Expensive Gun, what do they have for you? Try holding all their guns. Listen to the advice and recommendations as a good gun shop will be able to tell what might suit you. Do not get swept away at this point.
5. When the recommendations start lining up with your thoughts from holding the guns, try shooting the models you like. Gun shops will loan some stock if you are a serious buyer. You can't shoot a new gun but second hand guns and demonstration models are plentiful.
6. Once you've chosen some models you like, look around them for similar guns e.g same maker, next model up or down, same make and model but premier version compared to basic, same make but earlier model version.
7. When you've found the make and model you like best, find one in your price range and buy it. Share the news ecstatically.
8. Shoot with your new gun for a bit and then get it fitted.
9. Shoot more until you find yourself giving the same advice to people even newer than you.

Fat Woman had fallen for Personal Trainer's DT10, but it was coming out of his cold dead hands so Fat Woman went looking elsewhere. It turned out that the reason Fat Woman liked the DT10 because it was backweighted and so was easier for her to handle. Fat Woman now has a Browning 425 nicely fitted to her. Shooting Coach says guns are just a stick that goes bang, so until someone tells Fat Woman her gun is letting her down she will stick with it. Fat Woman is a bit undiscerning when it comes to things like engraved game scenes and wouldn't pay extra for them, but she does like her stock having pretty wood.

Fat Woman and the dessert revolution

Fat Woman is a big fan of dessert or, as she prefers to call it, pudding. Fat Woman is aware that some American readers might think that she meant the soft, whipped dessert made from a packet, similar to what UK people know as Angel Delight, but Fat Woman likes the solidness of the word "pudding". A pudding is something good and filling. In Britain Fat Woman has found the word "dessert" too often means that whatever is available has aerated cream and a dry sponge base made from a powdered mix. The only thing to make Fat Woman shudder more than a British dessert is the word "sweet". If someone asked Fat Woman if she would like a sweet Fat Woman would think she was being offered a Fox's glacier mint or some other kind of boiled sweet in a crinkly cellophane wrapper.

Fat Woman is now wondering how many puddings she has turned down when she thought she was being offered a tooth-shattering Murray Mint.

Fat Woman is very fond of pudding. Fat Woman doesn't have a lot of pudding these days, which is a shame because Fat Woman makes amazing puddings. Fat Woman can turn out a New York Cheesecake that will make you cry, in a good way, and has seen men fight over the last piece of her banoffee pie. Fat Woman regrets that no gentlemen have ever been inclined to fight over her person, but accepts that some are made to be beautiful and some are made to be useful. Fat Woman also does a treacle tart that would do any school pudding revival justice and a chocolate floaty pudding where the sponge rises to the top leaving a delicious fudgy sauce underneath. This in addition to the two minute treacle sponge, cooked in the microwave when unexpected guests stay for dinner, and a range of fruit crumbles and pies. Fat Woman regards making pudding as a craft and has studied for many years.

Fat Woman is not only fond of making pudding. Fat Woman is fond of eating pudding. Fat Woman inherited the idea that pudding is a treat from her mother, who whilst an utterly splendid lady had her own food issues and was inclined to use sweet food as a celebration, a reward and a way of showing love. Fat Woman's mother didn't serve pudding unless there was a special occasion, but a special occasion would require a decent amount of pudding. Fat Woman still serves two contrasting puddings at dinner parties, usually one with fruit and one without as Thin Husband doesn't really like fruit in puddings.

Fat Woman may give the impression that she has spent most of her life scarfing down sweet food, but actually she simply doesn't have pudding very often. Fat Woman has turned into one of those irritating people who will buy very expensive punnets of out-of-season raspberries as a treat. Once Fat Woman started eating a very clean diet she found that she no longer appreciated the bland sweetness of most purchased puddings. Simply put, they weren't worth the calories. Fat Woman was heartbroken to find bought cheesecake bland, the pastry of any pie too sweet and that anything marked "Dairy Milk" now tasted exactly like chocolate protein powder. It has had the benefit that any time Fat Woman has a milk chocolate craving she has a chocolate protein shake instead.

Fat Woman's relationship with protein powder has been slow-burning. Personal Trainer introduced Fat Woman to protein powder, but for a long time Fat Woman was determined that she could get all the protein she needed from food. People kept telling Fat Woman that a protein shake was "Just like a milkshake" but Fat Woman never liked milkshakes, with the exception of a McDonald's thick shake when you could get them both thick and vanilla flavoured. Fat Woman managed to eat protein after she developed a protein fudge bar, which Personal Trainer adores. Fat Woman learned to drink protein shakes when she realised that she was going to spend five days out of every seven on ibuprofen if she didn't get a handle on her DOMS, and there was research showing the constant ibuprofen use leads to hearing loss in women. Fat Woman also had firm instructions from Personal Trainer to increase the protein value of her breakfast.  On training days Fat Woman eats eggs but on other days she wants cereal and has a protein shake on the side as a convenient way to meet her nutritional requirements. Fat Woman spent the first week of liquid protein consumption blending unflavoured protein with fruit juice, to Personal Trainer's apparent irritation, because fruit juice has needless sugar, until she took delivery of orange and passionfruit whey isolate. Personal Trainer thinks that all whey protein should be chocolate flavoured and was possibly as disgusted at the orange and passion fruit flavour as he was at the mixing whey with fruit juice.

Eventually Fat Woman got to the stage of chugging down vanilla whey with ease. Fat Woman has unflavoured whey for baking and for use with the MyProtein.com flav drops - raspberry and apple for the mornings, chocolate whey for baking and satisfying the occassional chocolate craving, vanilla as an all-around stand-by and orange and passionfruit for using when travelling. People seem to accept that a double flavoured protein shake like orange and passionfruit can't taste all that bad.

Fat Woman's relationship with protein products has centred mostly around those produced by MyProtein.com. Fat Woman has heard reasons why other products are supposedly 'better' but she is a whizz with a spreadsheet and has never found proof, either nutritional or financial, that any company has a product that is better for her. At least Personal Trainer approves of Fat Woman's collection of proteins from MyProtein.com; he was very rude about the protein shakes on sale at the gym when Fat Woman bought one and said that if she ever forgot her protein again she should come and get some from him. Fat Woman did this and it was a very nasty tasting serious blend that she was grateful for at the time, but will go to great pains to avoid in future.

Fat Woman was therefore delighted to be appointed an official tester of MyProtein.com products. Partly this came about because Fat Woman is a blogger with a widely read audience, but also because Fat Woman is persistent. Fat Woman loves research and shopping and food and having worked in marketing knows the value of thoughtful, honest feedback. Fat Woman has been promised all kinds of goodies to try out, but the first thing to arrive was a protein dessert. Fat Woman overlooked the word "dessert" on the grounds that the prospect of a good protein pudding was simply too exciting. Fat Woman has made protein pudding herself but it was a faff and a chore and wasn't that tasty, so now she doesn't bother.

Personal Trainer was also very keen to try the protein puddings. Personal Trainer is a huge fan of puddings, although it seems to Fat Woman that he does tremendous mental gymnastics in order to allow himself the odd treat. Fat Woman tries very hard to respect Personal Trainer's dietary regime, but does miss the days when he was eating anything he wanted as she rarely found such an appreciate and unsatiable audience for her cake. However, Personal Trainer is a lean, mean fitness machine so whatever he is doing is obviously working for him. Personal Trainer did make Fat Woman's banoffee pie part of his last cheat meal before his summer slim down. The pie was so filling (or possibly calorific) that Personal Trainer even let Sparky have a piece. Sparky was so impressed he came to thank Fat Woman, which Fat Woman thinks was sweet.

Fat Woman had three flavours of protein dessert to try: strawberry, banana and chocolate. Fat Woman was disappointed that there was no vanilla flavour as that his her favourite, but was very impressed at the originality of the banana flavour. Fat Woman had prepped by reading the instructions, and as it was so easy to make the pudding (put in shaker with 150-200ml of milk, shake and refrigerate for 15 minutes) she made the puddings up in three separate shakers and stored them in the gym fridge whilst she trained. Fat Woman's mistake was not putting the milk in first; the mixture didn't all get mixed in, which Fat Woman considered a terrible waste. Fat Woman admittedly didn't use MyProtein.com shakers, which might have been part of the problem. Fat Woman had however used 4% fat milk. Personal Trainer is a fan of full fat milk, and although Fat Woman doesn't usually have it at home she thinks that a pudding ought to be given a fair chance by being made with the milk that is closest to cream. Fat Woman had brought a pint of milk to split between the three shakers, which is possibly why there wasn't quite enough milk for the packet size.

Personal Trainer designed to join Fat Woman in the gym reception area for testing. Fat Woman had provided serving spoons for each flavour, and plastic cups to eat out of. Fat Woman failed in her product testing etiquette because she only had one extra spoon for each of them to eat with, so each person would have to lick their spoon clean between new flavours. Personal Trainer had had to be reassured that Fat Woman was not inclined to swap saliva with him, but even he approved of Fat Woman's serving arrangements.

First to be tested was the banana pudding. Fat Woman helped herself to a couple of spoonfuls and tucked in. The first mouthful was chilled and creamy and delicious! It had a lovely texture, not the bland overly-processed smoothness Fat Woman remembers from Instant Whip, but somehow reminder her of that other 1980s pudding, table cream. Personal Trainer laughed at Fat Woman because she was eating her banana dessert in the same was as some over-excited lady would on an ice-cream advert, licking the spoon with great concentration and making sure she had finish all her serving. Personal Trainer admitted that he thought the dessert was nice - which Fat Woman felt was damning by faint praise giving the way he had gone through his portion at high speed - but couldn't be shifted into giving more fulsome praise. Fat Woman wasn't too bothered about this because Personal Trainer said her amazing chocolate cake was "very nice".

The strawberry dessert was next. Neither Fat Woman nor Personal Trainer are huge fans of strawberry flavoured things, except for jam in Fat Woman's case, but they agreed that for a strawberry flavoured dessert it was good. Strawberry lovers will probably love it.

The chocolate pudding was the highlight of the testing. Personal Trainer declared that the chocolate dessert was just like an Aero mousse. Fat Woman didn't think that the makers of Aero would be too keen on that comparison, and she certainly wasn't going to admit to have eaten an Aero mousse in front of Personal Trainer, but she did think that it tasted just like the chocolate mousse she had from Tesco. Well, that Thin Husband ate but he let Fat Woman have a teeny teeny taste.

Fat Woman and Personal Trainer discussed the use of such a protein dessert. Personal Trainer said that he would use it late at night when he wants something sweet to eat before bedtime. Personal Trainer also said that although most women he trains don't use protein like Fat Woman he could see the value in recommending something that is craving-killing because of the high protein content. The protein dessert would be a good part of a calorie controlled diet. Fat Woman made a mental note to give several people samples.

Fat Woman is giving thanks to the universe that finally someone has invented a pudding that tastes good and sweet AND kills the craving for an indefinable pudding something that fruit never seems to get rid off. Fat Woman now has her own large bag of banana pudding, plus a sample of vanilla to  try and a little bag of chocolate for emergencies. Fat Woman just loves the texture of the banana pudding. Instead of being blandly smooth it has a slight grain to it that reminds Fat Woman of some food from her childhood but she can't think exactly what. Symingtons table cream perhaps.

Fat Woman is continuing to experiment with different kinds of milk. With 4% fat milk the puddings are thick and solid after 15 minutes in the fridge. With 2% milk the puddings feel a little bit lighter but are solid enough to create a good mouthfeel. Fat Woman finds that 50g of protein dessert and 150ml is the best mix and that if you put the milk in first the powder doesn't end up in clumps at the bottom of the shaker. It needs to be shaken; whisking doesn't work anywhere near so well. Fat Woman splits each batch into two, making individual servings in ramekins. The pudding needs covering or else it develops quite a thick skin.

Fat Woman is honestly delighted at the protein dessert. It tastes good and it's quick and easy to make. Most importantly for Fat Woman, when she wants that something sweet and yet fatty at the same time this protein dessert made with milk hits the spot. Satiety is a big requirement from a pudding, and to find one that will deliver without setting up a sugar spike is a huge deal in Fat Woman's world. Fat Woman is fairly sure she doesn't have a sugar addiction but it is such a relief to want something sweet, be able to eat something sweet and tasty, and then feel satisfied.

Fat Woman doesn't think the protein dessert is a replacement for the home cooked perfection she strives for when making pudding, but it beat the heck out of anything else she has found for the same amount of calories.

Fat Woman got her lovely protein dessert samples from the nice people at The Hut who are working on behalf of MyProtein.com. You can buy your own protein dessert from http://www.thehut.com/sports-nutrition/protein-dessert/10797052.html.

Fat Woman and the bore

Fat Woman is delighted that Thin Husband is taking up clay pigeon shooting. Whilst Thin Husband is fun to be with and always supportive of Fat Woman's activities he has steadfastly resisted doing any organised activity that Fat Woman has taken part in over the last seventeen years. Fat Woman has done everything from local politics and youth work to golf and gardening and Thin Husband has refused them all. In fact the only time Thin Husband ever said "That sounds fun" was when Fat Woman asked if he would like to go on a hill walking holiday. This was a trap of the most enormous kind because Fat Woman is not only fat but heavy so walking is very slow for her and Thin Husband has a horrible habit of walking five metres in front of her as though this will somehow make Fat Woman develop a higher top speed. Also Fat Woman has bad knees which meant for a long time walking up inclines would cause terrible problems, and horribly wide feet so she can't buy walking boots. So when Thin Husband has turned down offers of every healthy leisure activity Fat Woman could think of and then jumped at the chance of doing the one thing Fat Woman couldn't do, Fat Woman took the hint and left Thin Husband to stew in his nerdy living room cave with the newspapers and the Internet. Thus Thin Husband had happy recharging introvert time doing what he liked, and would be presented with the credit card bill for keeping Fat Woman happy and out of his hair at the end of the month. Fat Woman thinks Thin Husband should count himself lucky that she likes second hand shopping and car boot sales.

Thin Husband now has a gun. Actually, Fat Woman is the legal owner of a lovely Beretta White Onyx 20 bore gun. The Beretta lives in Fat Woman's gun cabinet and is on Fat Woman's licence. Sometimes Fat Woman is gracious enough to take Thin Husband to gun club and let him use her gun. Thin Husband has been trained in gun cleaning so can now clean both guns before Fat Woman locks them away again.

Fat Woman doesn't mind a 20 bore but rather resented the idea that as a woman she would automatically need a 20 bore. Fat Woman has a lovely, well-balanced Browning 425 12 bore that is perfect for a clay shooter of her level, especially now the stock has been cut right down and the horrible pointy toe has been shaved off. When Thin Husband started learning with a 28 bore club gun and suggested he might buy one of those Fat Woman put her foot down. Fat Woman said that not only were 28 bores ridiculously expensive but the cartridges were bloody pricey and annoyingly hard to buy. Fat Woman also said that little children were seen on the clay ground with 20 bore semi automatics and they would point and laugh at a grown man who couldn't handle a 20 bore.

It turned out that Thin Husband was indeed perfectly capable of handling a 20 bore, but decided that he didn't want a semi automatic because shooting is a social activity for Fat Woman and everyone on clay grounds seems to hate semi automatic users (PICK UP YOUR SHELLS!). Fat Woman didn't mind on the grounds that an over and under 20 bore could always be cut down for her if Thin Husband gave up on shooting.

Fat Woman needed more cartridges and now they would need more it made sense to consider buying in bulk. Thin Husband was looking at cartridge prices. It turned out that 20 bore cartridges were approximately £60 per thousand more expensive than 12 bore cartridges. Fat Woman shrugged and said that was the price Thin Husband would have to pay for having a girly 20 bore. This was a little mean of Fat Woman, but she considers Thin Husband would be perfectly capable of getting used to a 12 bore, and this is the effect of his choices.

Thin Husband put his head on one side and in his most reasonable voice pointed out to Fat Woman that it was a lot more cost effective for him to shoot a 20 bore than to pay for three sessions a week for Personal Trainer to build up his strength.

Anyone who thinks Fat Woman is always right should meet Thin Husband.

Fat Woman and the social meeja

Fat Woman had coffee with a friend after training. Fat Woman hadn't planned on staying around but ate a protein shake and a banana to keep her going. After coffee Fat Woman really needed food so she stopped at the Kentucky Fried Chicken and ordered two pieces of chicken. Fat Woman always loved KFC as a child and only gets it once every year or so.

Fat Woman was very pleased to find two dark pieces of chicken, a drumstick and a thigh, in her bag. Fat Woman find KFC breast meat to be dry and rather pointless. Fat Woman didn't know you could have two dark pieces and will in future ask for them.

Fat Woman found that the two pieces of chicken combined with what she had already eaten filled her up and met her calorie allowance. Looking it up later Fat Woman saw that the drumstick had approximately 120 calories and the thigh had 290 calories. With 29g of protein and only 11g of carbohydrates this was a suitable post-workout meal for Fat Woman, even if it wasn't the quality of meat Fat Woman usually prefers. Fat Woman found it rather salty, but as she rarely eats any salt at all this isn't something to worry about. Fat Woman tweeted that she was rather over KFC. Fat Woman only wants KFC once a year anyway, and might in fact skip a year or two.

The next day a Facebook friend of Fat Woman posted about having KFC. Fat Woman commented that her tweet the previous day had obviously inspired them. Fat Woman forgot about KFC and went about eating healthy food.

The following day Fat Woman was surprised to receive a tweet from Personal Trainer. Fat Woman doesn't follow Personal Trainer on Twitter because he has been known to retweet things that he would not say in front of Fat Woman. Fat Woman feels that whilst people shouldn't say racist, sexist or homophobic things or even tell fat jokes, she is in danger of being the political correctness police and that she will not judge someone on direct conversation with others that she accidentally becomes privy to via social media. This is lucky because another Coach is a gazillion times worse than Personal Trainer, who retweeted one fat joke once and was suitably abashed when Fat Woman called him on it.

Fat Woman and Personal Trainer compromised by becoming friends on Facebook, where Fat Woman is also friends with Personal Trainer's mother, and by Fat Woman following Personal Trainer's professional twitter account. Personal Trainer never uses his professional twitter account apart from once to say thank you to Fat Woman for his housewarming gift. It took a whole month for Personal Trainer to reply to Fat Woman's only other tweet to him, and as that was two days before Fat Woman wasn't expecting to hear from Personal Trainer through Twitter again, possibly not ever so. Then she received a tweet saying "No post workout KFC for you today!" Personal Trainer had seen Fat Woman's posting and gone to Twitter to track down what she had said about eating KFC. Fat Woman was impressed by the ingenuity, and amused that Personal Trainer had bothered.

Fat Woman was surprised by the tweet, but not half as surprised as she was when back in the gym Personal Trainer launched into an attack on Fat Woman's bread eating habits. Fat Woman once gave up bread on Personal Trainer's recommendation, but after three months Fat Woman hadn't increased her weight loss and had in fact slowed progress a little because it was harder to find calorie controlled meals on the go. Personal Trainer insisted that Fat Woman was eating too much bread and had eaten bread every day over the last week and implied that somehow that was terribly awfully bad. Fat Woman was puzzled by the outburst and also about how Personal Trainer got his information as she hadn't eaten bread at the weekend. Fat Woman wonders if perhaps Personal Trainer was having a massive craving for bread and was projecting a little.

Fat Woman felt rather attacked. When Personal Trainer says things like that it leaves Fat Woman feeling that every good choice she made was simply not good enough and that she is trapped in a game she cannot win. Fat Woman doesn't let Personal Trainer manage her nutrition, partly because she is very well informed herself, partly because Personal Trainer takes a very drastic approach to nutrition that Fat Woman simply can't sustain for the rest of her life. Fat Woman has to rely on calorie counting so she knows if her metabolism is faster or slower than it should be. This happens quite a lot with her thyroid replacement hormone, which causes weight gain when the dose is both too high and too low. There is a sweet spot in the middle when Fat Woman is essentially on speed, but it comes with unpleasant side effects and a large crash afterwards. Personal Trainer lives with a lack of control in this state of affairs but was obviously having a moment. Fat Woman doesn't have much sympathy for Personal Trainer's frustration because it only bothers him for three hours each week. Fat Woman gets it 24/7

The irony of the whole thing was that Fat Woman went to KFC because she knows Personal Trainer thinks she eats too much bread and she didn't want to buy a sandwich for lunch. Next time, Fat Woman will go to McDonalds and she won't mention it on social media.

Fat Woman and the emotional rollercoaster

Fat Woman had had a bit of a shock. Fat Woman was functional and safe to drive as the shock was purely emotional, but Fat Woman certainly wasn't in a great mood when she turned up for training. Fat Woman will confess that she had shed the odd tear in the car, but claims that was because Classic FM played some really sad music (the first movement of Mendelssohn's 4th Symphony). Fat Woman finds herself listening to Classic FM on the way to the gym a lot because her car CD player doesn't work and the radio reception around the gym is rotten. At home Fat Woman likes Kiss FM. Fat Woman blames her love of modern music on her continual gym presence.

Before warm up Personal Trainer asked Fat Woman if she would like to work outside. Fat Woman said she would prefer not to on grounds of having recently been sunburned. Personal Trainer is usually quite disappointed when Fat Woman doesn't seem keen to spend time outside. Fat Woman used to think this was because Personal Trainer felt that he was offering her a treat but now thinks it's because he is missing a chance to top up his suntan. When Personal Trainer asks Fat Woman if he looks brown Fat Woman now knows to ask to see his palms. Orange striped palms do not get tan compliments. Fat Woman isn't a fan of cosmetic tans anyway. Fat Woman went to Malaysia for two weeks and managed to come back as white as when she went, although she did suffer heat stroke.

When Personal Trainer turned on his heel and left the conversation abruptly Fat Woman thought she would be forgiven for taking it that her answer had irritated him a little. Fat Woman could understand that as if a session is planned it must be annoying to have to change it last minute, although she knows that Personal Trainer used to do lots of his session on the fly. However, as Fat Woman was in the middle of a sentence at the time she was disinclined to accommodate the wishes of someone who would walk away without finishing a conversation so she told Personal Trainer not to sulk. Fat Woman didn't know if Personal Trainer heard her but she wasn't in any mood for someone else's mood and went and actually ran on the treadmill. Fat Woman was quite shocked that she could actually run that fast (9km/ph), but she slowed down fairly quickly as her heart rate had shot up and she could get on with stretching.

Personal Trainer might not have been upset with Fat Woman but he certainly wasn't in a friendly cosseting mood. Fat Woman was treated to not one, not two but THREE evil supersets with no breaks

The next hour went thusly.
  1. 20 TRX squats - Fat Woman is going to work hard without talking. Or smiling. So there!
  2. 20 Squats and press with a really big dumbbell
  3. A minute of step ups on the high setting of the step - Fat Woman thinks she can do this, so there, Mr Grumpy Trainer.
  4. 20 TRX squats - Fat Woman is trying not to think about thing and keep her mind on her work.
  5. 20 Squats and press with a really big dumbbell - Fat Woman could really do with some nice encouragement right now.
  6. A minute of step ups on the high setting of the step - Fat Woman is going to use her negative feelings to power her workout.
  7. 20 TRX squats - Fat Woman wants to cry but she's damned if Personal Trainer is going to say he made Fat Woman cry.
  8. 20 Squats and press with a really big dumbbell - Fat Woman is grimly determined.
  9. A minute of step ups on the high setting of the step
  10. Two minute rest - Fat Woman wonders why she didn't beg off and go shooting instead
  11. 20 TRX rows - Fat Woman can do this.
  12. 20 press ups
  13. A minute of piston presses with 4kg dumbbells - Fat Woman doesn't think she can do this. Surely Personal Trainer will change the weights down?
  14. 20 TRX rows
  15. 20 press ups - Fat Woman has visions of a single tear running down her nose and plopping dramatically on to the mat.
  16. A minute of piston presses with 4kg dumbbells - Fat Woman wonders how much more agonising this is going to get.
  17. 20 TRX rows - Fat Woman thinks she could probably cry if she thought about sad things a bit more.
  18. 20 press ups - Fat Woman wonders if crying would actually do any good or if it would just freak out Personal Trainer.
  19. A minute of piston presses with 4kg dumbbells - Fat Woman wonders what would actually happen if she did cry. Certainly Fat Woman's arms are really, really burning. Fat Woman suspects Personal Trainer would ignore any snivelling. Certainly it is unlikely there would be hugs and sympathy and an invitation to go for coffee instead.
  20. Two minute rest - Fat Woman is not going to cry. Fat Woman is strong. Fat Woman is dedicated. Fat Woman wants to go home. Fat Woman has already paid for this so might as well do it.
    THE ENDORPHINS KICK IN.
As Fat Woman sits on the mat she suddenly feels a rush of good humour. Looking Personal Trainer in the eye for the first time in half an hour Fat Woman suggests that if she had said yes to going outside Personal Trainer would have said they were going on a nice picnic. Personal Trainer said no, he had planned shuttle runs and boxing.
  21. 20 crunches - Fat Woman can do crunches. Crunches are easy. Personal Trainer is pleased. Fat Woman knows this because Personal Trainer says "strong!"
  22. 20 dead bugs - Fat Woman does dead bugs all the time. They hold no fear for Fat Woman.
  23. A minute of cycle crunches. - Fat Woman can do these. Even if her abs are hurting. A lot.
  24. 20 crunches - Fat Woman finds ordinary crunches a relief after cycle crunches.
  25. 20 dead bugs - Fat Woman makes it through with wobbly legs.
  26. A minute of cycle crunches. - Fat Woman finds herself waking up in an alternate reality where her body had been wired up to electrodes to give her intense pain in her upper abs after just four cycle crunches. Fat Woman lies on the mat gasping for breath and waiting for the order to stop to come. Fat Woman does four more crunches and collapses with agonising, breath stealing pain across her middle. Fat Woman wonders if she could cry as a distraction but the endorphins have STOLEN that option from her. Fat Woman does four more crunches. Fat Woman is blistered by Personal Trainer's lack of sympathy.
  27. 20 crunches- Fat Woman is wondering if she breathes more deeply then perhaps she will be able to make it through the set.
  28. 20 dead bugs - Fat Woman has surrendered to the agony. It is a trial. It is a torture. Fat Woman will do these without complaint.
  29. A minute of cycle crunches. - Fat Woman is now caught in a sci-fi movie scene where time is streeeeeeeetched interminably.
It took Fat Woman nearly three minutes to do a minute of cycle crunches. Fat Woman had burning in her abs like she had never had before. Personal Trainer kept hitting the stop button on his little orange Casio F91 watch and waiting patiently for Fat Woman to recover. Eventually the final minute was over and Fat Woman was allowed to cool down on the treadmill. Personal Trainer kept raising the incline and looking at Fat Woman to check if she was going to make a fuss about it being too much pressure on her knees but Fat Woman was past caring by that point.

Fat Woman was utterly, totally slaughtered by that session yet after assisted stretching she got up in a cheerful and positive mood. This is why Personal Trainer is Fat Woman's rock. Personal Trainer is always there and lets everything else flow around him.

Fat Woman was amazed by her recovery speed after each superset. Personal Trainer informed Fat Woman that she was going to hurt the next day, but Fat Woman is diligent when it comes to stretching, and also taking protein, BCCAs and painkillers.

Fat Woman goes bang

Fat Woman hasn't actually gone bang, despite it having been suggested that she might many times over the years, starting from the age of four. Fat Woman always find the idea that fat people actually explode as ridiculous, and yet some people seem to cling to the idea that it is possible to increase and therefore decrease a person in size immediately as though they were inflatable. Fat Woman is not in the mood to discuss the dehumanisation of fat people though because she has had an AMAZING day shooting.

Fat Woman parcelled Thin Husband off to a shooting lesson and went shooting with Personal Trainer and another friend. Fat Woman was by far the worst but Fat Woman loves being a newbie:  there are no expectations of her. No one getting five consecutive pairs could have been as thrilled as Fat Woman was to hit each of the clays from the 120 foot tower. In fact, apart from the first pair when she was unsettled and not able to concentrate, Fat Woman hit one of every clay she tried. Fat Woman counts that as a HUGE success.

Fat Woman is easily pleased.

Fat Woman has a shooting-packed month coming up. Fat Woman would like to get better at shooting but frankly if it stays as much fun as it is she could love with being this level for quite a while. Shooting makes Fat Woman want to write in capital letters. Its FUN! FUN! FUN!

Fat Woman and the cleaning

Fat Woman is a natural housekeeper. Fat Woman knows exactly what needs to be done and when and how and how much it should cost. Fat Woman is great at managing people and resources. This does not mean that Fat Woman enjoys doing chores but as Thin Husband isn't about to provide Fat her with a full staff for a three bedroom cottage Fat Woman does what is needed.

Back in the days when Fat Woman wasn't quite so healthy and well but was still trying to work full time she did have quite a few people helping her. When Oldest Friend found out that Fat Woman had a cleaner and a gardener and an ironing lady she didn't speak to Fat Woman for three months. Fat Woman now does the gardening herself and spends the money on shooting and simply fails to iron anything unless it is a high day, holiday or special occasion. Fat Woman is enjoying being able to work in the garden. Having the energy and strength to mow the lawn and weed the flower beds is a wonderful feeling for Fat Woman when she didn't used to be able to manage that.

Fat Woman still has a cleaner. Fat Woman loves Cleaner perhaps even more than she loves Personal Trainer. When a friend wanted to hire Cleaner for a one-off project Fat Woman told them that they had better be nice and pay properly because she could get new friends more easily than she could replace Cleaner. The friend was surprised to realised that Fat Woman was deadly serious.  Fat Woman agrees with Jilly Cooper who wrote that in the Cotswolds stealing "treasures" [AKA char ladies] was a bigger crime than stealing husbands.

Thin Husband is not up for being stolen but says he wouldn't mind being borrowed.

Personal Trainer has been making Fat Woman work on her cleaning skills. In this case Fat Woman stood for most of a session throwing up Power Bags. A Power Bag looks a bit like a duffle bag but it weighs perhaps 5, 10 or 15 kilos. Fat Woman sometimes deadlifts the 20kg Power Bag as a warm up. Swimming Coach taught Fat Woman to clean a kettlebell reasonably well, but Personal Trainer hasn't managed to get Fat Woman to clean a barbell properly yet. Fat Woman gets a little hazy on the difference between a clean and a snatch if she is totally honest, but as Personal Trainer is usually telling her where she went wrong she doesn't worry about it.

Fat Woman started cleaning with the 5 kilo bag and almost immediately punched herself hit the larynx with it. Personal Trainer told her to stop putting so much power behind her lift and use some more control. Fat Woman immediately had thoughts of Carl Lewis in his red stilettos advertising Pirelli tyres with the slogan "Power is nothing without control" but didn't bother to share that with Personal Trainer because he probably wasn't born then. For a hit of nostalgia see the advert at http://www.ewanpaterson.net/?p=151.

Fat Woman stopped putting so much effort into her pull and things went a little better for a while. Then Fat Woman switched up to the 10 kilo Power Bag. The 10kg bag is a little bigger than the 5kg, natch. Fat Woman tried cleaning it a few times but Personal Trainer started having lots of things to say about her technique. Eventually Fat Woman had to look Personal Trainer straight in the eye and explain that although she doesn't usually like to mention such facts, she was struggling a bit because her bazoomas (thank you, Sparky, for that evocative word) were getting in the way.

Personal Trainer stared at Fat Woman with  the rabbit-in-headlights look that he brings out occasionally when Fat Woman surprises him with subjects that they usually politely skirt around and managed to let out that he knew. Fat Woman knows she surprised Personal Trainer by mentioning this issue because he is usually much more articulate and responds instantly with a suggestion to change technique.

Fat Woman stood a little further away with the bag and got on with the cleaning. At the end of the last set Fat Woman had possibly improved her technique to almost acceptable.

Fat Woman suspects her mother-in-law might say the same about her housekeeping.

Fat Woman and the unfine feelings

Fat Woman has to work quite hard at being a nice person. When Fat Woman is tired, hungry, cold or feels under attack she has the ability to turn into the kind of monster that spits out a stream of flame that incinerates everything it touches. Fat Woman avoids politics for the simple reason that she is very, very good at them. This is because Fat Woman is very, very good at manipulation, persuasion and applying pressure when needed. Politics do not bring out the best in Fat Woman.

Competition does not bring out the best in Fat Woman. Fat Woman only likes competing if the rules are clear and she has a realistic chance of winning. At the local produce show Fat Woman helps run they use the Royal Horticultural Society's criteria for deciding which are the best vegetables. Fat Woman approves of this as it means everyone is able to choose their best entries and also see why a particular entry won. Fat Woman wishes they would publish similar criteria for the home baking. Fat Woman particularly dislikes the "because I said so" kind of judge so beloved of the Women's Institute who often ask a visiting speaker to judge the competition. Fat Woman's grandmother used to enter the competition every month and when she reached her later years would get Fat Woman to do her entry for her. Fat Woman remembers a particularly fine month when the competition was "My Brush With Royalty". Fat Woman's grandmother had once glimpsed the Duke of Gloucester. The amount of royalty in the story was as little as you could get but Fat Woman's grandmother won the competition because her entry was so nicely presented i.e. Fat Woman had typed it up for her. Fat Woman still thinks this was woefully unfair on people who had much better stories and reminded her of being at school when teachers would praise projects done on computer for being "so well presented" when Fat Woman had no computer and disgusting handwriting. Fat Woman still has terrible handwriting but has a lot of computers.

Fat Woman stopped going to netball practice because the focus was on the club being competitive. It wasn't competitive inside the club, but the aim was obviously to be able to field teams that were good enough to beat other teams in the league. This meant that all of a sudden forty minutes of every session was devoted to "fitness" because the first team were not deemed fit enough. Fat Woman doesn't mind fitness and spends a lot of time and money on it, but "fitness training" seemed to be "running around the netball court". Fat Woman would have put up with well thought out cardio training, intervals and HIIT exercises, but thought that just running about a lot didn't do anything for most people, who were able to manage it, and was boring as all get out for her. It reminded Fat Woman of school P.E. when they had a substitute teacher. Instead of ball drills they would have "games" involving chasing each other. Fat Woman can see that if running a team you want to put together the best squad possible, but Fat Woman was so far below the grade that she had no interest in making the grade, only progressing personally. After two months Fat Woman was admittedly a much better netball player than she had been, but the extremely cold weather, a metatarsal injury, and the failure of the netball secretary to reply to her meant that she abandoned netball in favour of choir, which was held on the same evening.

Part of the reason Fat Woman likes shooting is that you compete against yourself and you can spend a lot of time shooting without having to perform to a particular standard. Fat Woman understands the idea of registered shoots but although they have fun targets she prefers the social and unpressured environment of the Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club. Fat Woman wants shooting to continue to be fun because that is what will keep her doing it. There is a rosette for the best shot of the day at the Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club, which is fun to win but Fat Woman doesn't think about this and no one else gives the impression that they are thinking about it. Everyone is looking to get closer to perfect, to better their ability not beat other people. Everyone applauds a good shot and there is no jockeying for position. Fat Woman does well sometimes but has seen every regular do better than her at other times.

There was a Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club at Fat Woman's home ground. Fat Woman was delighted and made three lots of cake for the occasion to make sure there was a good spread and enough cake. When over tea and cake it was announced there might need to be a shoot off Fat Woman said that they should send the two unlucky people back out into the cold and let them get on with it whilst everyone else stayed inside in the warm with tea and cake. Fat Woman was told that she should be careful what she wished for because congratulations! she had made the shoot off. Fat Woman pointed out that the other competitor had apparently gone home. Fat Woman was awarded the purple rosette and promotional Hull Cartridge silk scarf and posed for photos with the cake winner and best beginner shot. Fat Woman is happy to take a win by default.

Then the missing competitor returned, having nipped out to shoot a Zoli gun on the demonstration. Fat Woman is extremely honest and pointed this fact out. The rep said that they could either split the prize or shoot off. Fat Woman was not at all keen to load herself back up with gear and go back out into the cold as she had defrosted and was enjoying talking to everyone and would have quite happily gone without rosette or scarf and been satisfied with the honour. Unfortunately for Fat Woman the other lady was extremely keen to shoot off. Fat Woman didn't want to make a fuss so she handed back the scarf and rosette and followed the instructor and the other lady back out into the cold. Extra shooting is extra shooting and Fat Woman is going to make the most of it whenever it turns up.

Fat Woman is can admit that she actually likes winning. What Fat Woman doesn't like is losing. Fat Woman doesn't enjoy losing herself but she also doesn't like having to stomp on other people or put them down, which beating them effectively is. That's only fun if you are reasonably well matched in ability and opportunity, otherwise it's like being a better speller than a five year old, unworthy, or sprinting against a professional runner, impossibly out of your ability range. Being the obvious high scorer at an event is fine as it is a surprise to everyone because no one is counting during the actual event. A shoot off however is directly competitive. There is nowhere to hide.

Fat Woman was unhappy that she was put in the position of either failing or forcing someone else to fail. As the instructor showed the two incoming birds that looked very far away Fat Woman thought that she was probably going to be the loser. Then, as though a switch had been flicked in her head, Fat Woman decided that she wasn't going to be the loser if she could help it, and that as she had been dragged away from a comfortable win-win situation she was well within her rights to make sure that she was the winner, no matter how invested she was in the fluffy, cuddly collegiate atmosphere of the event.

This didn't help Fat Woman's nerves.

Fat Woman actually looked at the incoming birds carefully and watched how her competitor shot at them, hitting three out of five. When Fat Woman took the stand she took herself and her shooting seriously, taking time to set her feet, to breathe and compose herself before lifting her gun, and waiting again before she called 'pull'. Fat Woman knew that she would pull the trigger at the moment when the clay paused at the top of it's arc and that she would watch the clay drop into a cloud of shot.

Fat Woman smashed all five clays.

Fat Woman felt defiantly triumphant. It may be that Fat Woman hadn't shot as well as she could have during the main event and that she didn't take each shot seriously, but Fat Woman likes being declared the winner regardless of how she did compares to how she could have done. Fat Woman is not at all sure that her feelings on the matter were of the finer variety, being more related to smashing the opposition than the positive pleasure of doing as well as she can. Fat Woman needs to work on this, and possibly get some therapy. Fat Woman wonders if this is how real champions feel.

Funnily enough, Fat Woman truly competes in the Cake Wars, has not yet won and yet minds not because she has worthy competitors. Also, the judging criteria is rather similar to that of the WI - inconsistent and random and according to individual preference. This is why shooting is a sport but baking is an art.

Fat Woman's confidence when shooting is starting to creep back thanks to the lovely, supportive ladies of the Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club and a coaching session with Personal Trainer. Fat Woman may be a long way from wanting to compete but at least she is feeling able to shoot faster and more securely. And she has a purple rosette saying "winner".

Fat Woman and the very odd feeling

Fat Woman had a very odd feeling. Fat Woman was feeling thinner. Fat Woman couldn't remember the last time she felt 'thinner' but suspects it might have been back in January when she bought new gym trouser that didn't make it through their first lifting session. Fat Woman was feeling a little bit lighter, a little bit slimmer.

Fat Woman has struggled through 2013 with regards to weightloss. In January Fat Woman lost just half a pound, but put this down to training for strength not weightloss. At the end of February Fat Woman's weight shot up 4lb in two weeks because her thyroid hormone dose was too high. By the end of March Fat Woman had adjusted her dose downwards and was set to weather the adjustment period. Fat Woman was the slightly under her optimum dose of thyroid replacement hormone and suffered the special effects of too much oestrogen - a beginning of the month that was so painful she ate extra strong co codamol like sweeties, and an awful skin breakout that wouldn't respond to her antibiotic cream. Fat Woman felt like she was 15 again, although at least she still had the car and the credit card as compensation.

Then in May things started to get better again. Fat Woman felt better. Fat Woman saw the numbers on the scale go downwards until they were almost where she was in January. Finally, Fat Woman stood on the scale and saw that it was no longer the-nearly-back-to-where-she-was _81lb but in fact _77.5lb.

Fat Woman doesn't know what she would have done if the scale hadn't shown a lower number than the previous week. It would probably have involved going back to bed for the rest of the day and crying lots. Fat Woman likes the idea of comfort eating but in practice finds it a disappointment. Dairy Milk chocolate tastes like chocolate protein powder.

Fat Woman is very relieved that her body is back under her control. When Fat Woman's hormones are right then eating well is easy and exercise is easy and so weight loss is easy. The only good thing that Fat Woman has to say about the first six months of 2013 is that she didn't quit.

Fat Woman and the hard work for no reward

Fat Woman usually works hard in training sessions with Personal Trainer. Personal Trainer likes Fat Woman to think about doing some more cardio after sessions and then decide not to because she is worn out.

On Monday Fat Woman opined that there was something in the wind and it didn't feel like a deadlift Monday. Deadlift Mondays are a hangover from Fat Woman's strength programme in January. Fat Woman likes deadlifting on the grounds that it makes her feel powerful and it makes her thinner.

When Fat Woman got to the gym Personal Trainer asked if she was all right to do deadlifts. Fat Woman said that she was always all right to do deadlifts and that she would get her wraps. Personal Trainer informed Fat Woman she wouldn't need her wraps that day.

Personal Trainer presented Fat Woman with an evil super set of 45kg deadlifts, push ups and dumbbell squat-and-clean-and-presses. Fat Woman had to do sets of 40 of each, then 30, 20 and finally ten.

Ten push ups have never felt so easy to Fat Woman as when she had just done 90.

The session was all well and good and Fat Woman felt properly worked out. The following day Fat Woman dragged her carcass through her 30 minutes of Couch to 5k walking finding that her body wouldn't move fast enough to send her heart rate above 130bpm. Fat Woman was so pathetic that she nearly didn't eat her reward chocolate.

On the third day Fat Woman returned to the gym again in accordance with her diary. At the end of the trainer session Personal Trainer asked Fat Woman how she was feeling. Fat Woman replied that she felt as though there hadn't been a gap between training session but they instead ran straight into each other and that they really should do some ab work because those were the only bits of her that didn't ache. Personal Trainer said that this was good but the ab work would have to wait.

Personal Trainer then told Fat Woman off because she posted on Facebook that she had made a Marmite cake and that it tasted amazing. Personal Trainer said that cake was bad and that Fat Woman shouldn't eat cake. Fat Woman has noticed Personal Trainer is touchy on the subject of cake and that possibly the word cake is a trigger word for him. Fat Woman found this ironic because at the previous session she provided an enormous chocolate cake which Personal Trainer had commissioned for a birthday celebration and ten minutes previously Personal Trainer had informed her that he had eaten a big slice and it was very good.

Fat Woman is not sure if Personal Trainer was unaware of the irony or he was ignoring it in a comedic fashion.

Fat Woman is reminded of the time she was persuaded to give up bread for three months because Personal Trainer was so passionately adamant that bread was evil and then she found out that Personal Trainer had been eating bagels.

Fat Woman has worked out that you can set a Facebook status so that only one person may see it. Fat Woman is wondering about posting a status listing all the things she has supposedly eaten so only Personal Trainer can see it.

Have just eaten three Penguins, a large packet of sweet chilli Kettle Crisps, a ham and pineapple pizza, two pieces of toast with butter, one with honey, one with Marmite, a Scotch egg and a protein bar. I think I might have overdone it with the protein bar.

Fat Woman and the heart

Fat Woman has a heart. This fact was in doubt for a while, not because Fat Woman appears to be an emotional void or possibly a sociopath, but because Fat Woman couldn't get her heart monitor to work. Fat Woman had visions of herself tripping off to see the Wizard of Oz singing "If I only had a heart" or having her heart replaced by an apple like in the fairy tale but then had the bright idea of replacing the battery in the chest strap of the monitor. This is lucky because in Fat Woman's experience it is hard enough to get minor surgery on the NHS, never mind open heart procedures.

Fat Woman acquired the heart rate monitor from Personal Trainer. Personal Trainer definitely has a heart although he is so fit it might take a little time to detect his resting heart rate. Personal Trainer is not in danger of a heart attack so had not bothered to use the monitor since purchase. Fat Woman was very grateful for the initial loan because buying a heart rate monitor seemed to be as complicated as buying a car.

The interesting thing about wearing a heart rate monitor for Fat Woman is that there is no correlation between how hard Fat Woman's heart is working and how hard her legs think she is working. Fat Woman has always known that her body is a big fat liar, demanding cake when actually it needs a protein shake and some lettuce, but it was nice to finally have proof of this. Knowing that even though her legs were aching that her heart rate was only at 60% allowed Fat Woman to push harder without fear of death. Fat Woman had spent so long with doctors looking at her as though she was going to have a heart attack/pulmonary embolism/stroke at any moment that she was rather concerned. With the heart rate monitor Fat Woman could gauge her capacity much more accurately.

Fat Woman wore the heart rate monitor for three days and found out that boxing and rowing got her heart rate up past 170bpm, cycling took more effort than her legs could manage to get her past 150bpm and that Tai Chi and Escrima are useful activity but not really helping directly with weight loss.

Having found that the heart rate monitor was a good indication of when she was doing some work Fat Woman measured her heart rate in the pool. Swimming laps was good cardio, but aquarobics was no longer cutting the mustard. Fat Woman was going hell for leather and still her heart rate would't nudge past 60%. This was a key point in Fat Woman's decision to quit her gym.

Fat Woman is using the heart rate monitor during her Couch to 5k. Fat Woman finds the little numbers intriguing and the correlation between her heart rate and her activity fascinating. Fat Woman can see from her data that her fast walking intervals get slower throughout her session but her heart rate does not drop. Fat Woman is going to live with looking like a sad exercise geek if it helps her kick her way off this plateau. Fat Woman is a sad geek and doesn't care who knows it. At least Fat Woman is a well-informed sad geek.

Giving the heart rate monitor back was very complicated because the chest strap goes under the wearer's arms and would need a wash before someone else used it. Personal Trainer was kind enough to sell the heart rate monitor to Fat Woman. Fat Woman paid for the heart rate monitor with an enormous chocolate cake that Personal Trainer commissioned for a loved one. Fat Woman made the icing decorations extra sparkly.

Fat Woman and the couch to 5k

Fat Woman doesn't like running. Partly Fat Woman doesn't like running because she isn't very good at it. Fat Woman is heavy and therefore has to do a heck of a lot of work to shift her body along. Fat Woman also suffered a great deal at school because she could never run as fast as anyone else. A favourite tactic was to make Fat Girl be "On" for the game of "Stop the Chicken". This is when everyone would line up on one side of the playground and rush to the other. Whomever was "on" had to catch someone who would then join them. Fat Girl didn't want to be"on" because she would be the butt of the joke for the rest of playtime. Fat Girl might have been fat but she wasn't stupid enough to want to subject herself to humiliation and jeering about how useless she was. Or "bullying" as they call it these days.

Fat Woman also doesn't like running because it didn't matter how hard she tried, she never made an acceptable standard or even seemed to make progress. A particularly clear memory is the day Fat Girl's class ran the 1500m. Fat Girl 'only' had to run 800m. Given that Fat Woman was two or three times the weight of her classmates this reduction is not as generous as it sounds. Fat Woman tried really, really hard because she wanted to please the teacher and she wanted to do well and she wanted to enjoy the sport like everyone else seemed to. By the end of the first 400m Fat Woman was utterly spent. Oldest Friend says she remembers the games mistress getting everyone to cheer for Fat Girl as she crossed the finish line. When Oldest Friend said this Fat Woman looked at her as though Oldest Friend had grown three more heads. Fat Woman recollects being barely able to breathe and dragging herself around to the finish  with horrendous pain in her side and ragged, rasping, hurting breathing, and then not only finding that she was somehow expected to perform for the crowd when she was already totally spent, but as she kept going and crossed the line she heard the games mistress say in disgust "She doesn't even try!" because Fat Girl didn't run the last twenty yards on command. Out of everything Fat Woman remembers of P.E. at school the unrealistic expectations and the complete lack of understanding about the capabilities of a fat girl by that games mistress are what stand out the most. Fat Girl spent every games period during her fifth year in the library. It was the only bunking off Fat Girl ever did, and even then she had a "note" saying she had a bad back that her mother had failed to date. The games mistress was caught having sex in a classroom with the gym teacher and made the front page of the Sun newspaper. Fat Woman ran into the games mistress at Oldest Friend's wedding and the games mistress didn't speak so Fat Woman was damned if she was going to.

These days Fat Woman doesn't like running because she has the mental picture that she is grinding her knee cartilage to powder. Fat Woman has worked through patella tendonitis, compressed cartilage, and at least three different kinds of muscle strain, thanks to Osteopath. But Fat Woman has always wished she did like running. Fat Woman would like to be like the yummy mummies who get togged up in lycra and head out for a 5k at the drop of a hat. Apart from the mummy part and the lycra of course. Fat Woman would like to be able to join in the Saturday morning Park Run rather than making some excuse about not getting out of bed. Running seems fashionable and sociable and fun and Fat Woman is feeling the peer pressure. Join us! It's fun! the Twitter feeds and the Facebook updates say. We just throw on our trainers and pop outside for half an hour of the most convenient exercise there is.

Fat Woman has spent too much time on the outside of normal to be swayed by peer pressure for more than a few moments. Sometimes though Fat Woman feels like Winston Smith in 1984. Fat Woman knows the truth, and she is sure that she wants something else, but thinks it must be so relaxing if you could just be part of the world that believes running is healthy for everyone and that it brings many benefits for everyone. Whilst Fat Woman really would like the functional part of fitness that comes with running i.e. not being the slowest walker in the entire world, she knows that it really isn't right for her right now. When at the dentist's office Fat Woman read Runner's World. It quoted an expert saying that 60-80% of runners get injured every year. Fat Woman quotes this statistic at her running friends who all admit to injuries, and uses it to bolster her resolve not to get sucked in by a marketing machine of an industry that won't even making running clothes to fit her. Fat Woman considers the fitness industry to be narcissistic in the extreme. Like a narcissistic parent, it sends out conflicting messages, messages that contradict themselves and leave Fat Woman in a no-win situation. Fat Woman can't get gear for the sport because she is too fat, but should do the sport to make her less fat. Fat Woman loses her powers of eloquence in the face of this dichotomy and must simply state: ???

Fat Woman has discovered different kinds of walking. Fat Woman was aware of power walking because she remembers how silly the walkers looked on TV at some point in the 1980s when such things were televised. On reflection, the silliness may well have been the 80s fashions for hair and clothes. Fat Woman had no idea that technically that was what she was doing during her time on the treadmill until Personal Trainer pointed it out to her. Fat Woman has also been taught walking the Tai Chi way. Fat Woman started her fitness journey with Tai Chi and Cal, her instructor, taught her how to walk very quickly with small, speedy steps. This helped Fat Woman no end when she needed to get moving.

Fat Woman came across a programme called "Couch to 5k". Fat Woman knows about the 5k run as Tiny Friend and Nurse Friend like to do one in the park on a Saturday morning. Nurse Friend is a practitioner of the "Come on, you can do it!" type of encouragement, the sort where people seem to expect that wanting to do it will mean you automatically can. It sends Fat Woman straight back to the Games Mistress saying: "Come on! Sprint for the finish!" as though Fat Woman is somehow holding back. Fat Woman took the invitation courteously and considered it seriously. Fat Woman established that the slowest runner finishes the 5k run at 45 minutes, but that most people do it in 30 minutes. Fat Woman pointed out that this means most park runners can manage an average speed of 10km per hour. Fat Woman put an end to the issue by promising that if she ever got to the stage where she could move at 10km/ph for half an hour she would revisit the invitation. This seems to satisfy all involved and Fat Woman has been left alone. The fact that Fat Woman isn't a morning person may have added to this.

Fat Woman found out about the Couch to 5k from London Friend who wasn't at all fit, although not in any way fat. Fat Woman looked at Couch to 5k and liked the principles of intervals and increasing gently each time. Fat Woman discussed the issue with Personal Trainer who said that he would much rather see Fat Woman doing any number of other things that would be just as good for her than developing an unnecessary obsession with being able to run and probably injuring herself. Fat Woman thinks that when Personal Trainer suggests something 'healthy' is a bad idea it's a good idea for her to listen. Personal Trainer said that walking fast would be far better for Fat Woman.

On a completely unrelated web forum Fat Woman read posts by people saying they had done the Couch to 5k but instead of running they had walked quickly. When they had finished the programme they went back and did it again, but faster. Sometimes people were simply improving their walking speed, sometimes they began running. Fat Woman was encouraged by this idea. Fat Woman knew she had to do something in the way of cardiovascular exercise between sessions with Personal Trainer, and since Personal Trainer's new gym to which she now belongs is a little drive away it seemed sensible to do something close to home. Fat Woman said she would start the programme if Osteopath managed to fix her metatarsal issue. When Personal Trainer enquired politely as to the state of Fat Woman's injuries Fat Woman realised that she hadn't felt any pain for a few days and therefore she should make good on her pledge to herself to do the bit that came after the couch.

The entire aim of Fat Woman's day of Tuesday was to get outside and do the first day of the Couch to 5k. Nothing else mattered so long as Fat Woman managed to do that.

Fat Woman did the first day of the Couch to 5k. Fat Woman didn't find it very hard as it was half an hour of walking with just three minutes of "running". Personal Trainer said that he hoped it was going to get harder fairly quickly as Fat Woman was way more fit than that. Fat Woman wore her heart rate monitor and, as she suspected, she was not working as hard as her legs felt she was.

Fat Woman quite liked being outside and walking around the country park. What she didn't appreciate was the app being unable to lock on to the GPS signal and telling her she had run "Naught Miles at Naught Miles Per Hour" every five minutes. Fat Woman also ran a different app that gave her a nice map showing her speed and route when she logged in via the computer. The best thing about the Couch to 5k app is that it suggests Fat Woman has burned a ridiculous amount of calories (500+) in just thirty minutes.

Fat Woman is rewarding herself with a single square of Valrhona orange chocolate every time she does a day of the programme. Fat Woman has never been one for delayed gratification and using food as a reward, but then she's never had chocolate this good before.

Fat Woman and the merry band

Fat Woman had been shopping for fitness gear. Fat Woman likes shopping but purchasing exercise equipment frustrates her as everything seems over priced or under quality. Fat Woman's approach is to buy a reasonably priced item, preferably from eBay or Amazon so it will be delivered, and buy again if the first item is used so much it wears out. This has served Fat Woman well so far. Fat Woman's boxing gloves have had heavy use for nearly 18 months yet they are standing up very well considering  she paid just £15 for them. Personal Trainer likes brands, but Fat Woman prefers not to associate herself with Adidas or Puma or any other fitness brand. Fat Woman is damn sure that the aforementioned companies wouldn't want to be associated with fat women! Fat Woman argued the branding issue back and forth with Personal Trainer but thinks she made her point when he acknowledged that if you see someone in a brand new pair of Adidas gloves you think they walked into John Lewis and bought whatever was available because they are an ignorant newbie, but if you see someone in a pair of well worn no-name brand gloves you know less about them, you give them the benefit of the doubt.  Fat Woman has done similarly well with boxing pads and waterproof MP3 player.

Fat Woman has bought inferior sporting goods from high street sporting stores too many times. Fat Woman's tennis racket that she bought from DW Fitness is considered dangerous by three coaches so far, who reckon Fat Woman was on the way to a serious vibration injury. So Fat Woman has given up on the high street. The only non-virtual place that Fat Woman gets exercise equipment now is Tesco. Fat Woman has a kettlebell, Swiss ball, swimming goggles, weight lifting gloves and arm band for her MP3 player at ridiculously cheap prices from the convenient corner shop. As Fat Woman says to her left wing anti-corporation chums: "It may be an evil, monolithic corporation, but it's so convenient."

Fat Woman needed a resistance band. This was a recommendation from Personal Trainer as part of the process of fixing Fat Woman's back squat. Fat Woman has a tendency to sink one hip lower than the other and to let one of her knees wobble inwards. Personal Trainer said that working with a resistance band would help solve this problem. Fat Woman has never let Personal Trainer use a resistance band on her before as she was mentally scarred by the sight of Buddy holding one end whilst his client's ankle was tied to the other. Fat Woman said that Personal Trainer was never, ever going to be allowed to put her on a leash.

Fat Woman is a fatalist so she went away and ordered a resistance band from eBay. The only problem with the band when it arrived was that it just 80cm long. Fat Woman has not realised that resistance bands are sold in strips and that you must tie them yourself. Fat Woman had thought that an 80cm band would be an 80cm loop. Personal Trainer said that Fat Woman could use the 80cm length of bright green rubber material to tie her hair back.

Fat Woman ordered three metres of resistance band. The band arrived and was taken to the gym. Personal Trainer was very keen to show Fat Woman how you can use a resistance band when lifting weights. Fat Woman watched Personal Trainer wind three metres of green ribbon around the barbell and stand on the ends whilst he lifted the weights. The band snapped and Personal Trainer didn't even notice. Personal Trainer felt bad about spoiling Fat Woman's band but Fat Woman pointed out there was still two metres left, and it had been cheap anyway.

Fat Woman ended up with the resistance band around her left thigh whilst Personal Trainer held the band ends. Fat Woman is still a very squishy person, especially in the leg area, and found instead of lying flat in a nice, wide strip, the band rolled up into a cable, which cut in terribly. Fat Woman was put in mind of turning sausages into smaller ones by twisting them. It has been a long time since Fat Woman has had to say she was too fat for something, so long in fact that she didn't actually realise that was what she should have said.

Under Personal Trainer's tutelage Fat Woman did weighted squats with the resistance bands pulling her left leg first inwards and then outwards. Fat Woman was left totally confused as to what was going on and just hopes that Personal Trainer was on top of things.
